The 2013 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is one of the richest, most powerful Chardonnays in the range. Here it is the wine's phenolic and sense of vertical structure that stand out most. Even with all of its obvious richness and heft, the Hyde preserves remarkable freshness. Dried herbs, orange peel and buttery notes add nuance on the large-scaled, ample finish. Following winemaking posts at Rudd, Dominus, Chalk Hill and Matanzas Creek, David Ramey and his wife, Carla began their own label in 1996, a Chardonnay from the Hyde vineyard. Hyde, in my opinion is their best Chardonnay. Aromas of ripe stone fruits with citrus notes and subtle oak. On the palate complex flavors of apple and peach flavors, crisp oak, well balanced lingering finish ending with slight mineral notes. Drinking well now, should improve over next few years.

We had this on 11/4-5/17. An excellent Chardonnay with tastes of tropical fruit, Meyer lemon, and a touch of vanilla and oak. Smooth finish with no bite.

Nice balanced acidity with orange peel citrus. More acid and minerality than other Ramey vintages. The fruit ripeness has been dialed down a bit to create a more hybrid chard with both new and old world refinement. Finish is a little muddy. It's not as complex as other Ramey chards I've had but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

What a beautiful Chardonnay. Well balanced. Smooth to the palate. Essence of apricots, vanilla and pineapple. This chard was paired with sweet lobster, shrimp, oysters and scallops.
