Peter Michael Winery Les Pavots Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2006

$149

The 2006 Les Pavots (a 2,730-case blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot) exhibits big notes of chocolate fudge intermixed with dark berry fruit, forest floor, underbrush, and some smoky oak. The wine is full-bodied, with remarkable intensity, low acidity, and a fleshy, opulent mouthfeel. This wine should drink well for 15-20+ years. Robert Parker

Licorice, dried green herbs, cassis, blackberry, printers ink. Showing almost medicinal/ cough syrup-like today. Firm tabacco and graphite/granite finish. Very interesting.

Elegant and full, paired very well with Osso Buco. The usual LP Bordeaux profile, some herbal notes. Drink up.

Very ripe and generously fruity, with smoky oak, rounded-off tannins and low acidity, finishing sweet and seductive. Lacks tension, though.

One of the nicest Cabs I’ve had in a while. Love it.

Pulled a LP after seeing David Lentine’s note on the ‘07. This ‘06 is drinking much better than the recent cellartracker notes but like the ‘07’s that I have drank, this is missing “that extra gear” that would put it into Division I. This is a D II athlete charging a D I scholarship price point.

Beautifully balanced - acidity, fruit, and tannins are perfectly aligned. You wouldn't guess it was from California.
