Pahlmeyer Napa Valley Proprietary Red Blend 2005

$149

Things just seem to get better and better at Pahlmeyer, a long-standing, brilliant, remarkably consistent source for one of Napa's finest Merlots, Chardonnays, and Pinot Noirs... has a deep purple color, a beautifully sweet nose of blackberries and cassis intermixed with some meatiness, smoke, and a touch of pain grille as well as notes of espresso and licorice. Full-bodied, rich, with decent acidity, excellent delineation, and moderately high tannin, this is a beauty that should evolve for 25-30+ years It is no wimpish wine at 15.2% natural alcohol, but that is buried beneath a cascade of gorgeous fruit and glycerin... 2005 and still young. Needed 1 hour to open to its full potential . Then WOW! Loaded with fleshy tannins, great structure and body. Thanks Howard. Very Impressive . Chophouse Group Monday

Still a baby, but a wine that will stop you in your tracks. Hits you with a lot on the nose but really elegant and balanced on the palate. Dried berries, plum, crushed rock, licorice and garden herbs. A winner!

Blackberry explosion on the nose. Hint of green maybe. 15.2%. Sort of flatter on the palate. Spicy blackberry. Good blackberry finish.

Opulence, it has it. Full bodied, luscious fruit and some oak. Long, slightly sweet finish but very satisfying with steak. Plenty of life ahead but why wait? This is all about power. Drink up.
