Black fruit, Cassis, vanilla with a hint of minerality. Bold almost syrup-like consistency. Long finish. While not big tannins, felt more Cab like than Merlot. Great with sharp Italian cheese.

Sipping Fine Wine

Opus One is a partnership by Baron Philippe de Rothschild of France and Napa Valley’s, Robert Mondavi. Beginning in 1993 Opus One created a 2nd wine, Overture, was only available at the winery, now in wine shops. A multi-vintage blend, about 70% Cabernet Sauvignon. Nice fresh fruit aromas, sweet and ripe. On the palate cherry and blackberry, with earthy tones, Bordeaux like, adding notes of cacao and vanilla oak. Fine tannins, lingering ending with earthy mineral. Since no vintage, this wine could become old sitting on shelf. Pricey, other great wines for less.

Pulled this one out of the cellar as a backup and it never disappoints. Ready to drink from the open and the strength of the 2012 (likely a mix of 2011/2012, given when we bought it). Great mix of fruit/tannins. #happynewyear #nye2018

Yum! Lush, mildly tannic, full of concentrated grape and cocoa, a hint of green bell pepper, and dark berries. The Cabernet isn’t played up in this blend, so far as it can tell. A bit too alcoholic to drink endlessly, but a lovely treat.
