Opus One Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1991

9.348 ratings on Delectable
$239

Opus One's 1991 is a gorgeously rich, opaque ruby/purple-colored wine with a knock-out nose of smoke, cassis, vanilla, and a whiff of herbs and licorice. Full-bodied, with surprisingly supple, concentrated, chocolatey, cassis, and blackcurrant flavors that ooze across the palate, this voluptuously-textured example of Opus One is atypical in a vintage that produced so many backward wines. There is no question the wine possesses plenty of tannin, but it is admirably concealed by the copious quantities of concentrated fruit. This Opus can be drunk now as well as over the next 15+ years. What can I say? The wine showed beautifully out of magnum! Great evening at Press Restaurant in Yountville

Happy birthday to me...from dad's cellar. Held up well! Thankfully not a dark moody Cab. Just what you would expect of an Opus of this age. We lost only 1 ounce to sediment. Didn't decant.

A great vintage for them, even better out of magnum! Lots of ripe dark fruit and power.

Deep beautiful crimson. Plums and smoked meat. Good acidity and structure.

Overshadowed by the Cheval Blanc, but still a luscious and ripe wine. Beautiful.

One of the better showings I've had from this famed Oakville project. Ripe, primary fruit, red berries, sweet cedar. The tannin were like a velvet sweater for my tongue. I guess the trick to enjoying this wine is waiting----25 years.

Absolutely alive. Fruit was present while the power had turned into elegance. Tannins had mellowed and subtle earth.
