The 2007 Solaia saturates the palate with a heady array of super-ripe black cherries, plums, cassis, mocha and sweet French oak. There is an exotic quality to the Solaia I find totally irresistible. Despite its considerable ripeness and opulence, the 2007 Solaia is never heavy, rather it impresses for its extraordinary finesse and balance. 2007 Solaia. Quarantine. Decanted 1 hour before serving. Drank with steak. Decanting drastically improved the wine. It was delicious after an hour and got better. Cocoa and coffee notes upfront, mushroom, rosemary, and other herbs following. Great tannin structure and body on the finish (which improved substantially after decanting).

2007 Solaia. Greg’s bday dinner. Decanted, but poured pretty quickly. This wine was very young. Green, tight, lacking in body.
