La Rioja Alta Viña Alberdi Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2010

$17.95

Ripe and intense aromas of strawberries and blackberries with hints of black ink. Savory notes, too. Full-bodied, chewy and focused with linear fruit and character. Very finely crafted. Drink or hold. James Suckling

Coconut and dill. Sweet and sour component is so obvious that you can hardly miss. Medium plus acidity. Soft tannins and nice finish.

If you can't smell American oak, drink this wine. My favorite Rioja producer, by far.

Had another bottle, aged well. Deep red with aromas of bright red fruits with graphite notes. A 100% Tempranillo from several exceptional vineyards, aged in new French oak for one year then in 3-year old oak for the second year of aging. On the palate cherry and strawberry flavors with vanilla oak, earthy spice and chewy savory tannins, well balanced. Lingering finish ending with fruit characteristics. Very nice, great value.

The wintertime combination of this lovely, medium bodied Rioja and homemade beef stew worked out perfectly. The wine was framed by cake like American oak and had an excellent savory dark fruit character. The finish was bright and the bottle too small!
