La Jota Vineyard Co. Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

$79.99

This full-bodied, concentrated wine shows plenty of power in its bringing together of the variety with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. With a huge presence on the palate that lingers and stays in one's brain, it shows a reductive quality of toasted oak along with black pepper, bark and leather saddle,. It's a wine to enjoy from a giant leather chaise, if possible... Wine Enthusiast

The first serving of this wine I gave it an 8.5. It was after the second tasting that I gave it a 9. Full body fruit forward. Well balanced. Good but not great. $85

Deep purplish red. Layered with dark mountain berries and baking spices. Heavy tannins (7/10) and full bodied. Restrained with gravel, black cherries, dusty and dark cocoa. Long finish. Drink till 2034. Will revisit tomorrow.

Howell Mountain wines are some of my favorites, and this will be no different...in 5-7 years. Extremely sweet and dense already, the plum and sweet herb notes need time to balance out.

What a treat. I have long been a fan but this 2013 was terrific. A beautiful Howell Mountain wine.

Not a bad wine for a cheesy Vegas business event dinner. Medium body, concentrated fruit, monster tannin. Will probably rate up in a few years when things mellow out.

Howell Mtn Tasting - Tasting a lot of wines though and in the same glass so I find it unfair to take these ratings seriously. Second best of the night. Also tried their Merlot (no pic) which was very nice especially after this many Cabs and Zins.

Been on a Howell Mountain binge for a while. Loving the tight mountain fruit and Volcanic soils giving the spice background. 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot and Malbec. Probably needs more time in the bottle. I think it will then loosen up.
