Joseph Phelps Vineyards Insignia Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2001

$305

The flagship wine, the 2001 Insignia Proprietary Wine, an 18,000-case blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, and 3% Malbec, continues to live up to my high praise from last year. Rich, elegant, and nuanced, this dense ruby/purple wine offers a nose of creme de cassis, incense, licorice, chocolate, and spice box. It is full-bodied, opulently styled with plenty of tannin, but the structural aspects of the wine are well-concealed by its intensity and overall richness. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2020. Awesome 2001 Insignia given to me from a friend Matt! Thanks ! opened up immediately showing great black fruits and soft tannins that meld together perfectly. Had it with 8 people at Il Villagios Rest in Cherry Hill. I would say this wine is almost perfect! CB 99 Rating. WOW!

More lively than the last time I opened a bottle of this mistake purchase (Costco, 100 dollars in 2005.) But still, compared to the 2002 Leoville Barton, it really lacks depth. Lots of sweet fruit that finishes relatively short.
