Jonata Winery La Sangre de Jonata Ballard Canyon Syrah 2014

$105

Unquestionably the star of the show is the 2014 La Sangre de Jonata, and it's a more finesse driven, elegant, cool climate example of the cuvee than normal. Reminding me of an Hermitage from Bessards, it offers gorgeous notes of blackberries, cassis, leather, scorched earth and pepper. Possessing full-bodied richness, firm, polished tannin and a focused finish... Jeb Dunnuck

Another great last minute gathering at the storage facility! I’ve been fortunate to try a few Jonata wines over the last few months and I am a believer. They have all been absolutely killer. This Syrah is so young. It was only open 30mins and it needed another few hours. Meaty...beef jerky mainly. Small bit of iron, but not as much as WA state Syrahs. Mid palate was large and in charge, with a fruit forward finish. Will be awesome in 5-7yrs!

Give this another 2-3yrs and I think this is a 9.4-9.5 wine. Aromatics alone are worth the price of entry. Smoked brisket, teriyaki Jerky, black peppercorn, and rhubarb pie. A balance between savory and funky Syrah style with a dash of spicy red fruit to add complexity. Iron, bacon fat and herbaceous notes accompany ripe black cherries and fig. Great stuff.

Jonata 2014 la Sangre de Jonata syrah. At 150 a bottle, it is damn good. I am loving this juicy red Syrah with my fluffy brownie. The chocolate really accents the flavors. I really can’t give a full honest review with all the chocolate in my mouth. But I did have a few sips before the brownie. It had a lovely floral bouquet of lavender. There were great notes of cherry, blackberry, and spice. and then give me a burst of chocolate and graphite. Not bitter at all but more earthy. This is a robust Syrah!!!! There is a very dry finish. I love this wine. Well worth 150 bucks.

Very good! 97% Syrah & 3% Viognier; ripe, dark, black fruits, tannins are mellow, easy drinking! Jeb @ WA gave 97 points; 95+ any day, anytime is about right. Cheers!
