We have been lucky to enjoy a few various bottles of 1997 Gaja and other than the Costa Russi this bottle may be our favorite. Opened 6 hours before, and then decanted 2 hours. Drinking absolutely wonderfully. On cork pop was a bit worried the barnyard characteristics would overwhelm but they balanced out with a bit of time and this really sings. Great fruit, great acid balance, tannins are quite integrated but still there to stand up to a dry aged strip steak on the grill. Really nice.

Another outstanding Barolo. This decanted for almost 3 hours and was still pretty tight. This wine was amazing but compared to the 96 rinaldi it was almost linear. It had beautiful fruit with smoke and tar but not the depth but we are splitting hairs here. You get the opportunity to drink this- go all in.

A spectacular Barolo that could continue to age for a few more years. Tastes of cherry, slight tobacco, and rich flavor that just filled the mouth. I need to find a few more of these. Mistakenly typed 1979 vintage but this was a 1997 as shown in the photo.
