The opaque purple-colored 1996 Barolo Conteisa reveals a sweet, ripe nose with an element of sur-maturite given its over-ripe cassis, melted road tar, licorice, and spice-scented bouquet. It exhibits a voluptuous texture, layers of concentrated fruit, and full body. Its tannin is largely concealed by the wine's glycerin, alcohol, and extract. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2020. A very nice surprise. Gorgeous. Balanced. Not marred by its oak.

Lots of wood. Plenty of fruit that struggled to push through the wood. Give it 5-10 more and try again.

18- deep, structured, lots of fruit with enough acidity that this will go at least 10 more years.

Elegant, tannin & oak present in the front, rounds out on the palate afterwards, bit of an abrupt finish, not sure it's a $250 wine by Australian standards. I can't imagine it lasting too much longer, I think 20 years will start to pull it up.
