Deep and purple. Violets and a richer plummy palate with a lighter cherry note. Oak resolving- pretty evolved considering its age. Quite unlike the others in its depth and thickness but tasty.

Perfumed with roses, muted black tea , leather, and red dried cherries...tannins powerful but ever so smooth and acid to match..

Ready to go, but will easily go another 5-15 years. A little oaky, surprising to me how much so.

Gaja wines can be big and oaky for my taste when young (and by young I mean under 20), so mine are in the back of the cellar. On a whim I grabbed this one for a dinner with friends and was not disappointed. After an hour decant it was pretty and balanced. Aromatic (rose), balsamic, tar, and red fruit on palate, but nothing over the top, and long finish. This bottle reinforced a lesson for me - not to rely so much on the score for the vintage or the single vineyard designation, but instead find and drink what you like. My last bottle, will need to hunt for more.
