Now to a superstar of Italian enology: The 2010 Flaccianello della Pieve will take your breath away. This is a seriously beautiful Sangiovese-based wine with the kind of intensity and aromatic purity you only experience every 1,000 wines or so. There's a lot to say here. First, the wine's beautiful appearance shows dark garnet colors with highlights of ruby and purple gemstone. The bouquet delivers a steady and seductive evolution with dark cherry, chocolate, spice, tobacco and sweet almond all seamlessly balanced one against the other. Its texture and inner fabric is rich, velvety and firm. There's a brilliant spot of acidity that hits you at the back of the mouth and helps the wine from feeling too heavy or dense. In fact, outstanding elegance is what ultimately sets it apart... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

A beast, this was showing well but the structure on it is still extremely youthful. Leave it alone for another 5 years for it to settle down. #fontodi

Nice ripe fruit component, beetroot and a hint of dried tomatos on the very interesting and constantly changing nose. Still a very young wine with present tannins. Needs some air to really show what he got. Give it a decant of 1-2 hours. Better in 10-15 years.

Brilliant, tight, concentrated, fresh, still very youthful, but balanced and promising, thanks to its wild yet sweet and polished tannins which today are hiding behind near perfect fruit.

Really nice. I have had mixed results with this wine. But singing tonight.

Aromas of ripe fruit, clove, smoke, graphite. Some green, stems, and wood in the aroma too, which may be intensified by all the sediment in my glass. Soft tannins.

Right at the sweet point for this vintage. A beautiful Sangiovese.
