Fonseca Vintage Port Blend 1997
Somewhat of a lightweight for Fonseca, but undeniably charming, this dark ruby/purple-colored wine offers a floral, exotic, flamboyant bouquet, a sweet, fleshy style, but not a great deal of weight or massiveness. Heady alcohol, sweet tannin, and a velvety texture make for a gorgeous finish. While I would have preferred to have seen more weight, structure, and intensity, this is an outstanding, albeit lighter than normal Fonseca. Anticipated maturity: now-2020. Robert Parker

Feels like yesterday, but this vintage is actually turning 20 within shortly... Must mean that I've gotten old too, right? Showing the first signs of maturity, yet still dominated by rich, pungent fruit, RS and lofty alcohol, but it's structure promise to deliver a new ball park in 10+ years. Lovely!

Lots to like here; gently candied dark fruit flavors pairs nicely with its still youthful tannins, slatey minerality and cherry-dominated acidity. Great already but way better in another 15+ years.
