E. Guigal Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2010

$44.99

A stunning effort and showing the class of the vintage...Rich, textured and medium to full-bodied, with ample black cherry, olive tapenade and subtle meatiness, this traditional effort stays pure and lively, with fine tannin emerging on the finish. It can be consumed now or cellared for over a decade. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Needs an hour to breathe, then shows opulent black cherry on a silky palate with ripe tannins and along finish. Elegant and wonderful

2010 vintage. Just starting to enter Phase Two of life. Knitting together rather well with consistent nose/flavors of spiced plum, beef stock and baking chocolate. Medium body. Smoothish and unified except for a small, unripe berries hiccup in the center palate. Expecting this to resolve in the next few years but will taste for it next visit. 2.20.23

Finally... The balcony is open. Very tight on open. After an hour or so, red fruit--cherry-- nice bouquet a little ouzo on the nose pairing nicely with several mild to medium cheeses. Good, not blown away. 91+ points

Moderate ruby red with prominent aromas of black cherry, licorice, and garrigue accompanied by subtle meatiness and hints of smoke. Medium bodied on the palate, it offers flavors of mineral infused cherry liqueur and finishes with silky tannins. It’s made from a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre which spent 24 months in large oak foudres before bottling. This is a great example of this wonderful vintage at a reasonable price and it’s drinking very well now. $45.
