Dominus Estate Dominus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2002

$415

This 2002 was virtually perfect when I tasted it...A flawless, seamless integration of tannin, wood, alcohol and acidity is found in this dense, plum/purple-colored Dominus, along with copious notes of sweet black currants interwoven with kirsch, forest floor, unsmoked cigar tobacco, new saddle leather and forest floor. Full-bodied with velvety tannins, stunning elegance and a 45-second finish, this sensational 2002 rivals two of the all-time great wines made at Dominus, 1991 and 1994...The 2002 will drink well for another 20 years. Second bottle in our Dominus vertical from ‘01 to ‘13 at Formento. This was not as great as the ‘01, but clearly favored over the ‘03 and ‘04 in the first flight. One of our favorites of the tasting.

Enjoyed our last full day at the resort, and we topped it off with another visit to Seven Glaciers. The food, the wine, the views...stellar! What a treat to get to enjoy some of this! I believe this was a 99 pointer. Still drinking so beautifully. Tannins are well integrated and there are no hard edges here. Deep ruby in color, with sage, dried cranberry, blackberry pie. If you have any of this, don't miss this drinking window!

Candied red fruit, beet juice, a bit on the sweet side. Soft tannins. Pleasant with some complexity. But a bit past its prime, perhaps.

Nice sweet oak on nose lots of rich full palate. Dark fruit shorter tannins/finish. Lots of dark chocolate. Still has many years left. 3-6
