Dominique Laurent Grande Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Echezeaux Pinot Noir 2012

$239

Bright, deep red-ruby. Lovely perfume of blackberry, licorice and rose petal. An essence of Echezeaux on the palate, showing outstanding finesse and a light touch to the sappy flavors of dark fruits and salty minerals. Finishes with rising, unflagging length and an impression of weightlessness... Stephen Tanzer

It has been quite a while since I last drank a Laurent Burgundy. Sadly, the 200% oak treatment is just too much for Pinot Noir. Other dark red varieties maybe but this is too extreme with unresolved oak fragrance and tannins. Too bad: there is probably a nice wine buried underneath.
