Domaine Zind Humbrecht Clos St. Urbain Rangen de Thann Gewürztraminer 2012

$69.95

Beautifully aromatic and finely balanced, with ample ground spice and floral notes. The laserlike acidity creates a firm, crystalline frame for the flavors, with peach skin, guava, clover honey and fleur de sel. A pronounced vein of smoky mineral resonates on the mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2030. 150 cases made. Wine Spectator

Waves of flowers, honey, tropical fruit, and spices. Maybe the most graceful gewurz I've had. Weight, texture, acid, sugar, and intensity were balanced fantastically.

Study material, all the aromatic notes lead to think that the wine is sweet, yes there is a touch of botrytis, it can be anticipated on the visual, on the palate all elements expand the orange jam, the Honey, the chamomile, fainted white flowers but vivid yellow and even red flowers, there is some slight residual sugar but not enough to consider this a dessert wine.

The nose is exotically aromatic with apricot, dried long’an, orange peel, honey, chrysanthemum, and hint of smoke. Viscous yet lively. Taste sweeter than the Indice 3 suggests, almost like drinking a late harvest bottling, but with impeccable acidity. Long bitter sweet finish. Considered by some as the best vineyard for Z-H, Clos St. Urbain is the domaine’s holding within the Rangen de Thann Grand Cru. About 1500 bottles produced from 0.5 ha.

Reference point Gewurz for me. Viscous, tropical, balanced. Screams for Thai food. Drink up.
