Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Cuvée De Mon Aïeul Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2006

$84.99

One of the gems in the vintage is the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Mon Aieul, which in 2006 was 95% Grenache and 5% Syrah. Elegant, seamless and weightless, yet with full-bore intensity in its kirsch liqueur, garrigue and licorice-driven aromas and flavors, this sensational 2006 provides that rare mix of both hedonistic and intellectual pleasure. It’s singing today, but will keep for another decade. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Opened up slightly raisiny but evolved into something very nice. 12 years old and already established terschiary notes of sandalwood, smoked meats, dried cherry and sage. It was such a big and plush wine in its youth (almost like Paso Grenache) but it has really turned into chateauneuf du pape

Classic, Grenache driven with perfectly integrated stem-based acid. Tobacco notes and bright red fruit.

Black raspberry, grilled meat, wet earth and garrigue. The wine threw an eighth of an inch of sediment. A very chewy and thoroughly enjoyable CDP, much more interesting than the base wine. @Bob McDonald thanks inspiring the pull.

You need wait at least an hour to experience this full throttle. While it may start out as a solid CdP, it flourishes into a beauty of a wine that might easily be compared to a Bordeaux. Elegant notes of oak, earth, currant, tobacco and meat are all intertwined into a fabulously smooth palate. I was distraught at the last glass, but was able to buy another bottle!
