Domaine Georges Roumier Chambolle-Musigny Pinot Noir 2011

$135

...another very lovely bottle in the making, wafting from the glass in a youthful blend of black cherries, sweet dark berries, cocoa, lovely soil tones, woodsmoke and again, just a bit of pepper. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, tight and very long and transparent, with a fine core of fruit, suave tannins and excellent bounce and nascent complexity on the long and serious finish. Fine juice. John Gilman, A View from the Cellar

A year ago today, with the help of Mr. @Andrew Fortgang there was an amazing Roumier dinner at Little Bird. I broke my wrist the next day. Decided to open up a simple Roumier to celebrate. This 2011 was in a nice place, red fruits, pitched deeper than expected, with freshness and enough energy within the oak. Will get better but drinking great now.

So here’s the deal. You MUST, I repeat MUST decant this and give it at least 90 minutes to air out. If it’s too cold then maybe longer like this one was. At the 2 hr mark it began to open up beautifully.

Volatile on opening. Settled into a pleasant, one-dimensional Burgundy. Not bad, but nothing special. A bit chunky for Chambolle. #roumier #chambollemusigny

An elegant beauty. Such precision. Years and years left on it but phenomenal now. aromatics are so great you hardly want to drink it.

2011 bringing so much joy at such an early stage from one of the Masters of Chambolle.

Touch rustic at this age perhaps due to prevalent stem inclusion. Even for village wine was very impressive

A very intense version of my favorite flavor dichotomy of red fruit and earth. Gorgeous texture.
