Domaine François Raveneau Valmur Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2016

$549

The 2016 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is a rich, exotic rendition of this great bottling, exhibiting aromas of honeyed peach, crisp apricot and sweet spices. On the palate, it's full-bodied, powerful and layered, with a deep and ample mid-palate, concluding with a long, saline finish. It's a textural, gourmand Valmur that I suspect may resemble the 2001 vintage when it reaches maturity. Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The first of a bracket of 7 Grand Cru Whites from the 2016 vintage last Saturday. We knew the lineup but not the order they are served in. My notes - Quite exotic ripe notes for a Chablis (as it turned out) - honeyed peach. Great intensity on the nose - loved the nose. A few of the tasters marked it down for what they saw as botrytis. I thought it added interest. Possibly my favourite wine of the bracket.
