Domaine Faiveley (Joseph Faiveley) Clos des Cortons Faiveley Monopole Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2009

$199

Full red with ruby tones. Incredible high-pitched nose combines raspberry, pepper, rose petal, red licorice, crushed stone, flowers, menthol and eucalyptus. The palate offers extraordinary sweetness but the wine's minerally lift and intense sappiness gives it a weightless impression. Shows the noble side of Corton grand cru, not to mention uncanny intensity; Faiveley made 42 hectoliters per hectare in 2009, but the wine tastes like half that. Finishes with incredible length and verve; offhand, I can't think of a longer 2009. Should be a cellar treasure. Steven Tanzer

Drinking extremely well from 375ml. Fruit is still very rich and fresh. Secondary development just beginning to add more complexity.

375ml...still has freshness combined with generosity of vintage. This is arguably(clearly) not the wine of the vintage as Tanzer proclaimed. Many 2009s are overripe, but there will be wines from 2009 that will enhance pleasure and nurture conversation for decades.

Had a very long finish and a smooth tight flavor profile. Seemed quite young.

Cherry cola, mineral, cassis, elegant tannin, medium plus acidity but not overwhelming. Charming wine, as they say.
