Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) La Tâche Pinot Noir 1999

$4895

The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 La Tache has sweet, tangy raspberry, black currant, candied cherry, leather, and spice aromas. This medium to full-bodied wine is harmonious, refined, and powerful. It is expansive, magnificently delineated, and feminine, particularly for La Tache. Its flavor profile is crammed with an assortment of super-ripe red and black fruit laced with vanilla beans. It has loads of sweet tannin that can be detected in its admirable finish. The 1999 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche is a transcendent bottle, wherein no one element dominates, it's in absolute harmony, not unlike a great piece of music or art. It has pronounced power, and is at the same time weightless and ethereal. Layers of crushed raspberries, currants, blackberries and plum give substance to more fleeting layers of exotic spice, minerals, rose petals, black tea, and fresh alfalfa hay, all of which crescendos in a seemingly endless finish. A profound wine.

Just amazing on the nose, pushing the variation new levels of excitement. Silky sweet on the almost full bodied palate, combining power and elegance, offering a plethora of fruit, spice yet remains sleek on the finish. Like a controlled Casbah market.

Yes? Super green. Greeny tart unripe stuff. Again, against my advice not decanted as long as i would have done under normal circumstances. Not my circus, not my monkeys. A bunch of good dirty notes, i suspect it would have been an excellent example in either 10 more years, or an additional 40 min in the Decanter. :/

A beast of a wine. Dense, complex with dark and red fruit soil and spice. Incredible finish. Best wine I ever had. (Drank on 06/27)

1999 - tremendous upside on this, found this bottle to be slightly restrained and taking a lot of coaxing to reveal the layers of flavors below. Plenty of material here but at least 10+ years away from prime time!
