Domaine de Ferrand Châteauneuf du Pape Red Rhone Blend 2007

$109

Possibly Bravay's finest effort to date, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape boasts an inky/blue/purple hue as well as an extraordinary perfume of graphite, incense, charcoal, roasted meats, Provencal herbs, pepper, and copious quantities of blue and black fruits. Full-bodied, extraordinarily pure, and already revealing remarkable complexity, focus, and balance, this is a stellar Chateauneuf du Pape that will require 2-3 years of bottle age, and should drink well for 20+ years. Cellared perfectly but had a strange effervescent that took quite sometime to blow off. Doesn't seem to be bacterial. Besides that, still quite young and tight. Just like most of the 2007's I've had the past two years. Big tannins.

Opened with a bit of spritz that quickly disappeared revealing opulence & structure.

It didn't show well. VA. Other bottles wouldn't have tasted like this.

One of the least expensive ($115) in a 7 wine line-up of 2007 CDPs, it finished 3rd in personal and group ranking in blind tasting. Had this wine in other vintages too and always enjoyable.
