Cobb Rice-Spivak Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

$67.95

Like the Emmaline Ann recommended here, this comes from a vineyard planted on Goldridge soil near Sebastopol; this site has a bit more volcanic material and a cool northern exposure. While many coastal pinots from northern California have a foresty aspect to them, this wine seems particularly leafy and delicate, with a cool fruit character that feels as refreshing as iced tea—you can almost imagine beads of condensation on the glass... Super happy with the bottle, aged nicely. Well balanced acidity.

Lots of temptation to give this one a 95. In careful consideration, this is a 94. Nose of raspberry, oregano, herb. Palate that is intense, black cherry and raspberry, brambly, earthy. I get a soil and terroir note here. Bleu cheese. Went well with herbed chicken. The finish has a little of black pepper and baking spice. Still a bit of youth here, and I think that this is going to improve quite a bit in the bottle over the next 3 to 5 years. Wow.
