Clos Erasmus Laurel Priorat Garnacha Blend 2016

$47.95

The 2016 Laurel is sensational stuff and, in truth, matches several older vintages of the grand vin in quality. A blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 16 months in a mix of oak, concrete, and amphora, this deep purple-colored beauty offers up a fresh, vibrant bouquet of blueberries, crisp plums, violets, and spring flowers. Possessing full-bodied richness, beautiful depth of fruit and richness, and a fresh, elegant style, it’s a brilliant wine that’s going to evolve gracefully for 10-15 years. Jeb Dunnuck

Substantial texture and weigh albeit very tight and wound up. Dark, meaty, filled with spices, tobacco, tar, and mixed black fruits. There’s a considerable amount of brett but it integrates into the wines richness and earthy minerality. Struck by the length of tannin perception and mineral core that envelopes the wine across the palate. Definitely a more masculine expression than LBT.

What a fantastic wine. Beautiful light yet powerfull like a ballerina. Sweet notes but not too much, acidity though like sweet candy. Cigar yes but like a Romeo y Julieta no 2. Long finish but you dont wanna wait that long. Enjoy it!

Garnacha, Shyrah and Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Fruity, aromatic and floral nose. Full body, but elegant way. Cassis and spices on the body with medium plus acidity. Young and fresh.

Hues of purple and deeply-concentrated ruby. Heavy extraction and tearing on the glass. Nose has strong leather, barnyard, and earthy notes. Also dried prune, stewed plum sauce, and creme de cassis along with delicate anise and lilac notes. Nicely balanced on the palate. Has complexity, an interesting character, and noticeable tannins. Delish!

It’s no secret that I love the wines of Priorat and those of Clos Erasmus are some of my favorites. The winemaking and grape selection are meticulous and Daphne Glorians’s attention to detail is reflected in this wine. This is classic Priorat with currants, raspberry, and wild herbs on the nose. The smooth tannins glide across the palate as the influence of black slate is evident. This wine is mostly Grenache with a bit of Cabernet and Syrah blended in. The 2016 is a young wine - approachable now - but should improve with age. Gorgeous wine! 2016 vintage on Feb 16, 2019
