One of Australia's most prodigious Syrahs, Clarendon Hills' 2004 Syrah Astralis is fashioned from vines planted in 1920... It boasts off the charts intensity as well as an opaque purple color, and notes of spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, roasted coffee beans, pepper, smoke, and a hint of sweet toasty oak...Anticipated maturity: 2010-2040+. A powerful nose offering up mineral notes through fresh violets with the palate drench d in black fruit flavours. A great Southern Australian wine demonstrating shiraz can be excellent.

Beautiful mouth feel; figgy and earthy. Shorter finish than expected, but really nice.

Needed 4 hours. Started bottle first night on 8/18 at Blackberry Farm and it was good but tannins not well integrated. Finished on 8/19 and very elegant. If the bottle had been opened 2-4 hours before enjoying on night 1, this would be extraordinary.
