Château Sociando-Mallet Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

$125

Amazing wine for the vintage. Black-ruby color. Stupendous aromas of crushed berries, currants, cherries and minerals. Full-bodied, with superconcentration of fruit and wonderfully polished tannins. Goes on and on... Wine Spectator

Today I tasted a wine as aged to perfection as I am. Needless to say, it was phenomenal. I will wake up with a 10 in my bed... this wine is a 10.

A classic, old school Bordeaux in a classic year. Decanted x5h. Still bright ruby, nose is mild barnyard with black cherry, leather, graphite on the attack with a lingering sense of tobacco and dried herbs. Tannins are resolving well with a bit of dry dust on the finish. Lively acidity and very youthful overall.

Soft and elegant with notes of dark fruit, pencil lead, forest floor, dried berries, leather and dried flowers. Only complaint is the finish was relatively short but still a beautiful wine.

This, most of all, is a homey wine. When one could talk about the vintage pedigree or how undervalued the producer is...this wine is so much more. It has an incredible combination of dark blueberried and clove-spiked fruit, green herbs and bell peppers, and toasty spicy oak. It all creates a feeling of rustic warmth that went great with a dish of roasted chicken with white beans and kale.
