Château Smith Haut Lafitte Pessac-Léognan Blanc White Bordeaux Blend 2009

$189

Smith-Haut-Lafitte hit a home run with their red Pessac-Leognan and came very close to perfection with their dry white Graves. Possibly the best dry white the estate has produced since the proprietors, the Cathiards, acquired the property in 1990, this wine exhibits a sensational fragrance of buttered citrus, honeyed melons and a touch of grapefruit, lemon zest and orange rind. It also displays grapefruit on the attack and mid-palate as well as real opulence, terrific acidity and length. Drink it over the next 15-20 years. Astonishing! Drink:2012-2032. Robert Parker

Lots of ripe yellow fruit and vanilla from the exstensive oak use, but pretty balanced by a good acidity. Overall kind of big bodied but in a luxurious way.

Was disappointed. Might have been a slightly off bottle or in a weird place because I've had a few bottles of this over the last 2-3 years and remembered really liking it. Too much bitterness, grapefruity flavor. There are redeeming signs on the finish which is long and quite pleasant but the overwhelming feeling of bitter grapefruit when you drink it is really not that pleasant.

Whoeahhhh! First time this vintage for me. Very classy wine and in line with Haut Brion blanc. Love it!

Wow. Gorgeous golden hue. It's all in harmony here. Stony, flinty white fruit, acidity that's not too bracing, a more generous weight in the mid palate than I expect from a white Bordeaux and a really long finish. Best white Bordeaux I've ever had. I'm guessing this may have a bit more semillion blanc than other white bordeauxs I've had in the past.

It's too young right now. Smell is musty, brown sugar, toast, forest floor, pepper and cherries. Tate's is astringent tannins. Just needs to age more.

Smells mineral and grapefruit. Tart, hint of honey. Strong grapefruit.
