Château Rayas Réservé Pignan Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache 2005

$249

Bright red. Fresh raspberry and wild strawberry scents, with suave floral and baking spice qualities adding seductive complexity. Medium-bodied red fruit flavors boast superb balance and sweetness, picking up silky tannins on the long, sappy finish. There's really lovely perfume, finesse and clarity here, reminding me of a high-end Chambolle or Volnay. Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media

Second wine of Chateau Rayas. Unlike anything else I had from the southern Rhone before. Racy, intoxicating, smoked meat. Very pale colour. Spices attacked my palate and didn't let go for a while. So intense! Gamechanger. I want to experience more of this.

Most didn't love this but I thought it was very pretty. Super floral, subtle red fruit on the palate.

#2005 Tablée majoritairement sur le bouchon. A posteriori je dirais plutôt géosmine. Tristesse.

Without doubt the best Chateauneuf-du-pape I ever had! And this is only the second wine of Chateau Rayas! This 2005 is just perfectly balanced and ready to drink. Very very long finish with red fruit notes and pepper...

A tremendous wine. Needs only a short decant and it was singing! On a side note, ran it through our FOSS and here's the stats (take it with a pinch of salt). G/F: 0.1 g/l (value not to be trusted, but trust that it isn't totally dry) pH: 3.79 TA: 6.2 g/l Alc: 16.7% (OMG! Doesn't seem that hot) H2M: 0.0 g/l VA: 0.47 g/l
