Pétrus Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

$3995

The phenomenally rich, well-endowed 1990 Petrus has been magical from the first time I tasted it in cask. The color is a dense, jammy plum/purple. The wine possesses a knock-out nose of black fruits intertwined with aromas of toasty new oak, caramel, and flowers. Massively rich and full-bodied, with slightly lower acidity and sweeter tannin than its older sibling, the 1989, the 1990 is an extraordinarily rich, seamless wine with layers of flavor, and a finish that lasts for nearly 45 seconds. Although it is remarkably accessible because of its voluptuous texture, this wine has not begun to develop secondary nuances. It should hit its peak in 10-15 years, and last for three decades. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2035. Robert Parker

So delicious, almost too easy. No tension.

But I might like 1990 even more than 1982

그레이트 빈티지인 90 - 무엇보다도 끝없는 피니쉬가 어마어마 했음 하지만 이 가격이면 난 본마르를 마시겟음

I think this just reached its plateau after 26 years. Very sweet and round. Tannins completely integrated, very nicely delineated. This wine just gets more and more intense on your palate. More than a minute burn. Great and will be for a long time.

1990 Petrus. Fourth of July dinner at the house. Drank this alongside the '90 Cheval Blanc. We decanted both wines for over two hours, but this wine was still very, very tight and young. The Cheval Blanc was much more approachable and opened up much more quickly than this wine did. Very tight and green on the nose to start, but relatively quickly went into a really funky phase- alternated bw earthy funk and sour funk. Then through the majority of the dinner, this nose shifted to a profile of sour cherry, gamey meat, and asphalt. All eight of us preferred the Cheval Blanc for most of the night, despite how often and quickly the Petrus kept changing. However, at the very end of dinner, the Petrus really opened up and became gorgeous. Should note that A pointed out that this might have to do with the fact that we had stopped eating, so we weren't mixing the fat from food with the wine. Overall, super interesting and delicious, but very, very young and we noted that we should wait to drink other bottles.
