Château Lynch-Bages Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1985

$339

Tasted several times and each time an awesome nose of blackberry, burnt toast, dried blood all with stunning definition. Just soars out of the glass. The palate is full-bodied, beautifully balanced with nigh on perfect acidity. So fresh and vibrant, powerful yet in some ways reserved and keeping something back. Notes of tar, cedar and a little pain grille. I still maintain that this is one of the best Bordeaux wines of the 1980's, as evinced by the numerous times I have tasted this. Drink now... Reddish color, clear and older looking. Textbook old Bordeaux nose. Notes of forest floor, dark fruit, cedar, horse saddle. Still holding at a plateau and remains in a great window for enjoyment.

how to celebrate the reopening of the glorious #NYC icon that is #UnionSquareCafe (founded '85)? With a velvety, minty '85 #LynchBages, lamb shank, & bien sur, USC french fries

Blackberry cassis, dark cherries, herbaceous, olive, liqueur notes, sweet spice. The 85 is still there but fading. Tasted at Cafe Lavinal which is owned by Lynch Bages. The Chateau is right next store.

I've heard great things about this wine but I've never had a great bottle. Just something disjointed about it.

Such a beautifully balanced & expressive bottle, the '82 is quite similar in style right now, but there is a smooth/exotic complexity to this one that the '82 doesn't express in the same way.

This particular bottle was advanced in age, but still a fun wine to try.
