Château L'Evangile Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

$749

A blockbuster, dark plum/garnet-colored wine, the 1982 L'Evangile reveals a decadent, extravagantly rich nose of caramelized fruit, plum, licorice, smoked meats, and toffee. This opulent, full-bodied Pomerol caresses the palate with layers and layers of glycerin and fruit. The tannin is barely noticeable in this massive, rich, gorgeous effort. The complexity of the nose alone is worth a special admission price. It is close to full maturity, and is capable of lasting another 20-25 years... Robert Parker

Lacking a bit. Nice secondary character but not the best

Tasted blind. Dark tawny with bricking rims. Animalistic nose with notes of ripe black fruit, cooked meat, plums, earth and a little anise. Very rich in the mouth. Powerful and complex. I guessed Cote Rotie. Nobody guessed Bordeaux. Still young but oh so silky right now.

The beautiful nose was worth the price, tired with muted fruit.

Dark ruby red. Super ripe cherries covered in chocolate and dipped in brandy, hints of truffle, slightly funky with barnyard on the nose. Viscous, luscious and velvety, packed with endless reserves of ripe fruit with just a fading reminder of silky tannin. This wine shall be sipped and swirled in small quantity slowly pealing away the many layers of flavor the palate has to offer, all that wrapped in a blanket of refreshing acidity that keeps you coming back for more. Truly spectacular. Drinking great now with mostly primary characteristics. Impressive length and balance. 5, 12,20,9,50, 96

Just spectacular. Still full of vitality and smooth as silk. Dusty books, leather and tobacco with just the right amount of dark fruit to balance it out. The nose is super classic BDX. My only criticism of this wine is that the finish isn’t as long as I hoped, but that is a minor point. Had to go all out for wife’s pre-birthday celebration with some Aussie lamb for a classic pairing.

A little shaken up on the way to the restaurant. Black fruits, plum, earth, leather, dried herbs, spice box, & tobacco leaf.
