Château Latour Grand Vin de Château Latour Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

$529

A terrific effort from Administrator Frederic Engerer and owner Francois Pinault, the dark ruby/purple-tinged 2004 Latour exhibits a strong cassis character intermixed with notes of crushed rocks, earth, cedar, and forest floor. Racy, elegant, but powerful with medium to full body, and sweet tannin... Robert Parker

Wine decanted for 90 minutes could easily use another 45 to 99 minutes in the decanter. It has a long runway ahead of it but with appropriate decanting can be enjoyed today. Beautifully balanced, cassis, olives, blackberry, blueberry, cedar, and a reasonable finish tells of its aristocratic lineage. Went well with the lamb we had for dinner

Wow. Some kind of quality. Nose was amazing and the palate evolved throughout the lifespan of the glass. So impressive how young this still was.

Not a bad start to our day, obviously this was really young, but being surrounded by 1,000,000 bottles really made me thirsty.

At Chateau. 90 CS, 10 M in 100% new French oak for 18 months Deep crimson with slight bricky tint. Compact rim. I've never sniffed a better bouquet in a wine. Creme de cassis, gravelly soil tone, black truffle, violet, mint, mushroom in extremity. Very young structurally. Lots of seasoned black fruits, dried herb, mixed spices, smoked meat, shiitake mushroom. Racy yet elegant. Power with nuances. Last minutes in mouth, and years in memory. Jean Garandeau kindly took us around for a tour and led our tasting. This for him is an "academic vintage" - classic and pure. I agree but if this is classic and pure, I would love to experience the spectacular of the so-called great vintages. 95++
