Château Lafite Rothschild Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1995

$795

The 1995 Lafite-Rothschild (only one-third of the harvest made it into the final blend) is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc. The wine was showing spectacularly well when I tasted it in November, 1997. It exhibits a dark ruby purple color, and a sweet, powdered mineral, smoky, weedy cassis-scented nose. Beautiful sweetness of fruit is present in this medium-bodied, tightly-knit, but gloriously pure, well-delineated Lafite. The 1995 is not as powerful or as massive as the 1996, but it is beautifully made with outstanding credentials, in addition to remarkable promise. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2028. Robert Parker

Such a classy nose of well structured, fresh black fruits led by blackcurrant & cassis interlaced with cedar and a light graphite core that should show more as this ages. Palate is tightly packed but beautifully tailored, firm and impactful but with fine tannin and a deftness of touch. Quite haunting red & black fruits hang on a great length. Incredibly classy stuff though not showy, old money.

"Classic Lafite" aromas, but a bit tightly wound tonight. Needs much more time in the cellar or a long decant.

An average vintage but the Lafite keeps its promise to deliver a top first cru quality.. To be drunk now. Although a light balanced style with the fruit and savory notes equal. More of a grand cru burgundy burgundy finesse. We sell at £1500

Great night! No survivors! They dedicated their beautiful wine lives before their time, thus allowing the 2000s to live on!

Probably the most expensive bottles of wine I've ever tasted at $750 a bottle. 1995 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac. First Growth!

Fave of many at the table, fell a bit flat for me. Great, classic cigar-box followed by a beautiful layering of black and blue fruit, black tea. Somehow just way flatter than the Margaux on the mid and back palate.
