Château La Mission Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1982 (1500ml)

$3799

An extraordinary effort that gets better with each tasting, this dark, murky, garnet/purple-colored 1982 exhibits a fabulously complex nose of hot bricks, asphalt, black fruits, tar, roast beef, and truffles, colossal concentration, super-ripeness, an unctuous texture, and low acidity. While still exceptionally youthful, this wine is powerful, dense, large-scaled, and intense...A candidate for perfection! Robert Parker

@Ted Mandes @Christine @Steve Colanero This was my WOTN: Incredible Nose,. As if you are walking through a forest with fresh Mountain Dew on the forest floor. I love the slight "Barnyard" notes, extremely well balanced wine with a finish that goes on forever. Thank you Sir., may I have another?!?!

1982 vintage. Wow. Where to begin? Decanted with the cork holding up extremely well (used a Durand). Throwing an absolute ton of sed so took about 4 minutes to decant properly. Plenty of color. Tasted 2 hrs, 3 hrs and 4 hrs after decant. Nose a little reticent the first foray but plenty of damp earth, elderberry showing up later. Then the graphite came in huge along with lesser, second-hand smoke/tobacco aromas. An addition of a remarkable freshness of both watercress and dill in the last few tastes. Light-medium body. Have tasted a few tired, big-boy '82's. This ain't one of them. This remarkable bottle did nothing to alter my opinion that I'd rather have a bottle of La Mission Haut Brion than any-including (just barely) Château Haut-Brion-first growth in the same vintage. Doesn't get much better and this one has plenty of time remaining. No rush to crush. Thank you, Dermott! 3.12.23

The 1982 vintage of Château La Mission Haut Brion is one of my all-time favourites from this estate. Medium to deep garnet in colour, the nose offers a mesmerizing array of dried roses and black fruits, cigar box, bay leaf, leather, earth and a dash of blackcurrant pastilles. The dense and powerful palate knocks it out of the park with a full body, delicate savoury notes, spices and a core of very concentrated dried black fruits. The long and persistent finish confirms an outstanding wine, flirting with perfection. Drink now

I feel like there maybe have been some storage issues with this one. Kinda wonky.

Classic claret full of leather tobacco and cedar. Delicious fruit with notes of cassis. Powerful haunting finish.

Had with venison one night and burgers. Didn’t decant but left in the glass to breathe. Not my favorite. A sharp finish both nights.

This is still liquid silk, but starting to show its age. Amazing wine. Better than last bottle.

Someting Wong. Not bad, but just not showing its true colors. A bit disappointed.
