Château La Mission Haut-Brion La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

$95

...It is endowed with a quintessential Graves-like nose with ebullient black fruit, black olive, singed leather and a touch of graphite. It is very composed and focused, the oak very well embroidered into the fruit profile...with insistent grip towards the bright, luscious finish that manages to maintain tension and poise. This is offering so much pleasure now - it will be interesting to see how it evolves. erobertParker.com, Neal Martin

Graphite, dark fruit, damp earth, and light cedar. Would hold for 7-10 more years. A baby now.

A very expressive wine, like the youngest sibling of the family it is precocious and reserved at the same time. He has his father's stature, his mother's eyes, and the unmistakable o'Brian nose: bonfires, almost peppery blackcurrent, with hints of fine calfskin leather, and freshly rolled Cuban cigars. Looking forward to drinking it in 10 years' time.

Solid but reading reviews I think I expected more. It is well balanced but fruit and other flavors were not as vibrant.

I have always loved Graves. It is my favorite region in Bordeaux. I happened into a case of this wine rebuilding my cellar. There was 1 glass left to taste next to the 2000 Pichon Baron. This wine showed well. It is a solid 2nd wine with tobacco, mushroom, Forrest floor, intermixed with red fruits in moderate quantities. Balance is good, but the intensity is muted. A good value at the $50 per I paid at auction but not worth the going rate of $100. 89pts.
