Château Haut-Brion Graves Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

$1145

...I do adore this Haut-Brion. The nose is heavenly with tobacco, earth, hot bricks, wild hedgerow, a touch of black olive (less than other bottles) with brilliant definition. The palate is medium-bodied, less precocious than say Latour or Mouton '82, more open-knit and accessible, quintessential Pessac that embraces that warmth of the growing season and infuses the delectable bouquet with nuances such as smoke, dried herbs, cigar box and a touch of rosemary. After an hour in the glass it is building and building. Divine. Drink now-2020+ Tasted March 2009. Neal Martin (eRobertParker.com)

Immediately identifiable from the bouquet alone. Tremendous intensity all around. A regal, magnificent wine that will drink well for several decades.

Tasted blind. Deep reddish tawny color. Notes of black cherry, smoke and wood, gravel stone, barnyard and lead pencil. Great fruit and still present acidity/tannins. We’re all in the Bordeaux camp with guesses – and it seems young so initial thoughts are that this is from the 90’s. But then the historical datapoints of having 82 Bordeaux in the past bring us to the 82 vintage with guesses. I go with 82 Lafite. I was bummed I couldn’t pick up that this is the Haut Brion, as it was obvious after the reveal we should have picked up the gravel and barnyard notes to point to Graves as the origin. This got better over the day, of course. Great juice with a long life ahead of it

Purchased this from the Wine House in Los Angeles in Aug 25,2015. I was somewhat ambivalent upon my purchase when I noticed the low shoulder and evaporation. I talked to a gentleman there who indicated that it was customary of 82s to have certain levels of evaporation and reassured me that the bottle was fine. Needless to say it was THE MOST DISGUSTING BOTTLE I HAVE EVER PURCHASED. THE WINE TURNED AND WAS ESSENTIALLY URINE. ASIDE FROM A VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND SWEET SALES PERSON I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN THAT STORE. BEWARE OF THE SKUM AT THE WINE HOUSE IN LOS ANGELES!

This was pretty decent @burdigalanyc the other night, showed some glimmer of youth, with loads of complex tertiary. Excellent energy and all around pleasantry, showing it's pedigree in spades. #1982 #hautbrion

Everything in the right place for a mature Bordeaux. Big but not showy. Sexy but not slutty. What truly great wine should be.
