Château Cos d'Estournel Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2002 (1500ml)

One of the candidates for wine of the vintage, this beauty has a dense purple color to the rim and a classic, noble nose of graphite intermixed with black currant, spice box, licorice, and red and black fruits. Medium to full-bodied with exceptional precision and definition, this beautifully textured wine stands out as one of the most successful wines of this irregular vintage. A brilliant effort, it should be at its best between 2008 and 2020. Robert Parker

02 Cos deserves a pat on the back for this effort during a challenging vintages. The wine was tight on the palate, still staying closed the next day, but had an interesting nose with licorice and exotic spice wafting around one's head. The next day I discovered an extra complexity of tomato leaf that I like but may not be to everyone's liking.

Opened like a normal 2002, all vegetal, but two hours later it was bursting with fruit! Give it time and it will impress you.

Huge tobacco, cassis, mineral primal core. Some big oak. Juicy, ripe, boring. Meh.
