Château Cos d'Estournel Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 1986 (375ml)

$125

The 1986 is a highly extracted wine, with a black/ruby color and plenty of toasty, smoky notes in its bouquet that suggest ripe plums and licorice. Evolving at a glacial pace, it exhibits massive, huge, ripe, extremely concentrated flavors with impressive depth and richness. It possesses more power, weight, and tannin than the more opulent and currently more charming 1985. Robert Parker

Singing. Complex balance@of cigar bitter cocoa leather and fresh tobacco. Terrific.

Beautiful color; minimal sediment. Consistent with online notes, but seemingly mishandled at some point; flat but with moments of beauty.

Compact, if thin, dried fruits, cedar, and graphite. Structure that wouldn't quit. Great balance.

wow. Where is my beef? So many secondary flavors in this wine, and they continued to evolve throughout the finish. Restrained at times, this wine was not dominated by just one character. Graphite, blackberries, leather, spice rack, medium plus acid and tannins still.

Soy, ginger, menthol nose seemingly oxidative. The palate is fresh though. Solid core of rocky, gravelly structure

Stood out in a vertical along with 96' still quite youthful overall, nose has wonderful mix of blackcurrant, cassis, sous Bois, smoke, graphite. Deep, rich and giving, this is in a wonderful place at the mo. Powerful, youthful sweet black fruit with spice laden tannins that though are starting to soften show great power and class. Wonderful!

The bottle was in better shape than the wine. Unfortunately, a bit oxidized. Was looking for great things from this 1986 vintage.

Like a Dunn, in that it won't go anywhere and won't develop to potential. Still ok drinking but no complexity or greatness.
