Château Calon-Ségur Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2005 (1500ml)

$265

This great St.-Estephe estate has turned out a succession of brilliant wines...An opaque ruby/purple hue is accompanied by a sweet nose of earth, smoke, cassis, and cherries as well as a textured, full-bodied mouthfeel...there is beautifully sweet fruit underlying the wine's structure... Super pure, needs about an hour to hit its stride. Balanced from start to finish. If you like a hint of fruit with fine tannins, this is your wine. Delish.

My go to Valentine’s Day wine! Generous and in a great place right now.

Got to take advantage of another Wednesday Wine Committee and boy was it worth it. Wow! Killer wines brought by Glenn for his 60th! As always, wines tasted blind. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds, 1 dessert wine. En mag. Possibly WOTD for me. I don't know if it was due to it being in a sweet spot or what, but this was firing on all cylinders. Room was split on Bordeaux or old Napa cab. A jamminess trait to it, but the finish had a great plum note that lingered. Some cocoa and blackberry pie, too. So good!

Decanted for 3+ hours and showing very approachable. Perhaps it is getting time to check in more closely on those '05 Bordeaux's.

Was very nice but I expected more out of this wine. Some serious oak in here, 16/20

En magnum. Quite good, but in the closed phase. 4+ hour decant and still quite reserved. My palate is blown at this point, but it is still quite good. Lots of tannins, but not much fruit at this point to fight through the tannins. Been holding this bottled for many years, but should have held off for a few more years. Patience is not my virtue.
