Château Calon-Ségur Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

$115

Loads of crushed berries, with mineral, lightly toasted oak and licorice. Full-bodied, with big, velvety tannins and a long, caressing finish. This is the sleeper of the vintage... Wine Spectator

Still big so decant. Really good 2 to 3 hours after opening. Lots of life left. The nose gave the region away but the mouth was a little simple (in a rich way) but not many layers.

One of the better 03s I've had. Still quite ripe aromatics, but showing plenty of Bordeaux character on the palate with good structure.

It's been a good night. Graphite. Ripe tannins. Pretty darn good.

Fantastically smooth, full and long body with amazing grip while still managing to be smooth across the whole palette. Notes of tobacco and oak on the nose - recomend atleast an hour or two of decanting prior to serving to lessen some of the earthy notes that dominate the texture initially.

2003 vintage, July 29,2017 wine dinner. Nice, but not as seamless as the Poyferre.

This is developing really well but I would hold on to this vintage for a few more years. Nice smooth tannins at this stage that give a nice backbone to the earthy tobacco and stewed cherry and raspberry. This was enjoyable now but the best days are ahead.
