Chateau Bahans Haut-Brion Pessac-Leognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

$149

The four finest second wines (wines made from declassified first-growth cuvees) I have ever tasted are the 1982 and 1990 Forts de Latour, 1989 Bahans-Haut-Brion, and 1995 Pavillon de Chateau Margaux. I am amazed by just how delicious the 1989 Bahans-Haut-Brion continues to be... The 1989 is a textbook Graves in its sweet, blackcurrant, tobacco, roasted herb-scented nose. Medium to full-bodied, with succulent texture, rich, fleshy flavors, and low acidity, it is a pure, beautifully made wine... Robert Parker

Haut-Brion 1989 second wine Bahans, epic! This bottle was in really good shape, the cork was moist still leading to an easy open even with the Durand. The color was a deep ruby red with some brick red at the edges, surprisingly youthful in appearance at the core with the expected fading edges. The nose was incredibly aromatic, literally exploding from the cork pull. In the glass I could take in notes of frankincense, red dried fruits, savory beef notes, and saddle leather. The flavors on the palate were expansive and long, framed by the fine grain, supple tannin. The tannin was mostly resolved, giving a sensual and delicate persistence that pushed through on the long finish. A beautiful wine that is in a great place right now!

Great vintage & 2nd wine of HB nose of sweet black fruits, graphite, tobacco, forest floor, very balanced and silky texture. Still very youthful showing grip and lingering tannins. I bought a case on futures and wish I had more than the 2 btls left as this is just entering it's prime drinking window.
