Calluna Vineyards Calluna Estate Chalk Hill Red Blend 2011

$28.95

. The bouquet is simply stunning, wafting from the glass in a superb melange of cherries, red plums, Cuban cigar wrapper, woodsmoke, gentle herb tones, a superb signature of soil, allspice and a nice base of elegant new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and supremely elegant, with a great core of sweet fruit, strikingly soil-driven and perfectly balanced, with firm, ripe and integrated tannins, laser-like focus and a very, very long, refined and complex finish. Sheer brilliance! John Gilman, A View from the Cellar

The ‘11 is in a great spot right now. All 5 bdx grapes heavily represented with cab sauv leading the way at 44%. Merlot provides lift and a heavy dose of cab franc brings the mid palate depth. You can smell this in the decanter from across the room.

Pleasant. But no length. A bit stark and tannic. Admittedly opened it young. A good wine but did t stand up to the 2009 Capture Revelation.

Showing it's vintage, site and winemaker; restrained, focused & domestic.

I waited too long to open this wine. It would have been better 2-3 years ago. Consumed on Crystal Symphony on our way to New Zealand.

Beautiful Sonoma version of Bordeaux. Cherry, herbs, firm tannins and delicious! Paired well with beef and grilled vegetables.

Lovely balance, acid and power. Black olives, cocoa and some coffee along with black cherry.

Jammy, peppery and restrained. Light tannins and decent straight ahead finish.

Boring. Thin with little aroma and equally disappointing finish. Totally negative QPR.
