Bollinger R.D. Extra Brut Champagne Blend 2002

$215

Super fresh, this is striking given the 10 years in the cellars; it has a fine citrus nose - plenty of lemon, grapefruit, yellow chalky notes, some lighter floral elements too. The palate is super dry (dosage at 3-4g) and there's a silky, sherbet-like texture, smooth, fine and long. The citrus flavours give way to the driving surging acidity, thunderous acidity, really driving and powerful. The finish twists very slowly through to light-toasted cashew fruit flavours, but lemon citrus prevails. This is thrilling Champagne. Disgorged 22nd October, 2013. Drink from 2016. James Suckling

WNH NY, 2021. The only bubbles on the table tonight, gifted by @Shay A - thank you, Shay. For an “extra brut”, I was surprised how sweet this presented. Lovely toasty nose was closely followed by a very energetic mid-palate. I’d like to re-taste this as I thought I detected a hint of boytrytis on the finish, which blurred the clarity of the expression for me. Still very enjoyable, tho…

Wayyyyy too young. Lots of oak on the nose. This is a massively endorsed champagne with richness, complexity and fine bubbles. This will be better in 20 years. Big time stuff

Slightly yeasty, green apple, pear, lemon zest. Bright with racy acidity, vivid but pleasant. Fine bubbles. What a wonderful RD could be!
