Averaen Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2017

$17.95

...Vibrant red and dark berry scents are complemented by suggestions of candied rose, star anise and cola; a minerally element builds in the background. Fleshy and seamless in texture, showing very good energy to the sweet cherry and black raspberry flavors, which deepen slowly on the back half. Shows strong, spicy tenacity on the persistent, floral-dominated finish, which is shaped by supple, slow-building tannins. Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media

Pale ruby, not particularly bright; not particularly scented; taste is pleasant and clean but lacks brightness; med-high acid; medium length of finish. Decent.

Displays abundant berry and floral character, with vibrant spice accents adding verve. Seamless in texture and appealingly sweet, the 2017 finishes with impressive, juicy persistence and resonating florality. This is textbook Willamette Valley Pinot Noir at a great price. $25.00 (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, March 2019)

Very recent bottling, not showing as well as the outstanding 2016. First impression was much more of a Chénas. Floral aromas of damp rose petal are very dominant with faint red fruit and spice character, but very muted overall without a significant mid palate presence. Bright acidity and freshness are nonetheless very appealing and I suspect it will open up with time as this is clearly a fine producer working with several terrific growers. Still a fine value, and I’d like to check in on it after a few more months in bottle.

Decanted and found some sentiment. It took a while to open up. Dark berry scents of floral and spice. Good structure with red fruit and star anise flavors.

Yawn. Overly big and oaky pinot, very little of the wine can shine through. Won’t buy again.

Nose: Ripe but bright red fruits. Strawberry jam. A little bit blue as well. Fresh, crusty cherry pie. Baking spices. Zesty orange herbal tea. Palate: Medium acid (think med-ripe raspberries), guava. Red fruit but less candied than on nose. A touch of salinity. Grapefruit pulp.

Clear Ruby, dried cranberries citrus notes, medium tannins, strong initial impact I’m not getting the longevity on the finish like prior vintages

A decent table PN from Oregon that offered good amounts of lichen-covered stones, mossy tree trunks, and rustic red fruits.
