...The 2006 possesses magnificent fruit intensity, depth and overall structure...this is a decidedly old-school wine in its interpretation... Scorched earth, tobacco, smoke and licorice meld into the huge finish. This is an especially brooding Barolo, even by Fantino's standards. Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

Wow. Development into a perfect Barolo. Wonderful. As it should be.

Barolo and ribeye is a beautiful combination. There is so much depth and nuance in this bottle! Sometimes it is worth it to respect and honor the classics. That has been my cooking thesis recently. Thanks for the memorable birthday present, @Anthony Lynch !

Nose: Leather, mulberry, xmas cake, cigar paper, caramel, maraschino cherry, anise, tea, earth, more leather, herbs. Palate: hiya structure, think I'll give you a bit more time before addressing you without a meal. Flavor is rich and deep, with caramel leather and sweet red fruit leading the charge. Geek notes: garnet core, pale garnet/orange rim; mature, high intensity nose; great structure and generous fruit with room to grow up. From the famous Bussia Cru, with all vines in center Dardi portion of Cru, near MonForte d'Alba. Excellent.

On the nose I found brilliant spiced cherry, and minerals up front, followed by sweet herbs, cinnamon, hints of game and tobacco. On the palate, silky, feminine textures gave way to fresh cherry, herbal tones and hints of cedar. Fine tannin coated the senses, yet resonating notes of pretty cherry and hard candy last long throughout the finish. I can only image how good this will be as it ages and possibly puts on weight, but today, it can easily be enjoyed it’s remarkable beauty alone.

Stuffed full of rose petals and tar, this richly textured, granular wine presents leathery, meaty, dirty notes along with its spicy cherry fruit and funk. White chocolate notes on the rich nose. Very fruity but not as herbal as I sometimes like. Could lay down a bit longer.
