Alban Vineyards Reva Alban Estate Vineyard Syrah 2013

$95

The 2013 Syrah Reva sports an inky color as well as notes of creme de cassis, charred earth, licorice, wood smoke and just hints of the classic iodine and seaweed character that really defines this cuvee. Supple, seamless, silky and opulent, with sweet, sweet tannin and a silky finish. It shows more and more spice with time in the glass, is incredibly polished, layered and balanced. Drink it anytime over the coming 15-20 years. Jeb Dunnuck

Dark purple in color with a wide reddish rim. Fruity nose with lots of black fruits, cedar and chocolate notes. Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and very fruity on the palate with nice complexity. Showing blackberries, cooked plums, cedar, tobacco, vanilla, dried fruits, light earth, barnyard, light vegetables, herbs, chocolates, espresso, cola and black pepper. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Syrah from Edna Valley in California. Showing nice complexity and elegance, with a soft mouthfeel. This Syrah from the great 2013 vintage is drinking beautifully now. A great sipping wine to have all by itself. 15.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $130.

John got his groove back - smiles all around / really wonderful - I can see why the critics gave it such high scores

Deep purple in the glass. Perfumed nose of blueberry, smoked meat, cracked pepper, and black olive. Very rich and full bodied on the palate with concentrated brambly fruit, prominent, fine grained tannins, and a whopping 15.5% alcohol which surprisingly does not come across as at all hot. Made from 100% Syrah from Alban’s estate vineyard, this bottling is named after his mother Reva. It’s drinking well now and has a long life ahead of it. $100.

Pop and pour at Luce in San Francisco. A majestic dark ruby red color. On the nose: bursting from the glass are beautiful notes of plum, stewed meat, cedar, some black raspberry, smoke, floral. Taste: smooth, rich, juicy wine with dark fruit, worn leather, meaty, bitter chocolate, and a spiced graphite long finish. YUM! A day before fire up for the Kevin Hart show in SF. Cheers!

Inky purple color, intense blackcurrant and blackberry nose carries through to the palate with some licorice around the edges and a very long aromatic blackcurrant finish. Slightly hot alcohol middle but I’m sure this will change with a few more years in the cellar.
