2016 was a vintage of elegance in Montalcino, and that quality is richly on display in this beautiful wine from Altesino. Deep ruby with a broadly structured nose featuring cherry, leather, violet, blackberry, black tea, plum and a hint of clove from well-measured use of oak, this is a lovely wine in every way. Already approachable, it will develop even more tertiary qualities like forest floor and mushroom with more time. Top notch Sangiovese with a great future ahead.

Very enjoyable. Rich dark fruit but not heavy and with a silky texture. The fruit makes this very accessible now though the tannins emerge gradually with air. I continue to enjoy this year for Brunello.

2016: Good but not great Brunello, drinking young and 2-dimensional now. Definitely has the tart cherry and acid going, but could have more body/depth and complexity. Could get more interesting with time but can get better 2916 Brunellos for a bit less. $50

Quite young still, and closed when opened after 24 hours, began to show its potential brooding, dark berry, fruit, earth, hint of herbs, flinty edge to tannins and clearly potential as it continues to age

Always like Altesino wines. Obviously no Poggio di Sotto or Stella de Campalto but this is still very delicious. Continue to love the Italian 2016s! Great fruit, well balanced acid, nice lifting finish. Good pairing with pork chops with a porchetta style seasoning.

Brunello di Montalcino 2016. Aged for 5 years. Coloration is red brick/brown. On the nose, cherry, strawberry, vanilla, forest floor, anise. On the palate, bbq, cherry, strawberry. Nice finish. Tannins still strong. Excellent.
